Course 3, Lesson 11 (6 hours)
Oral Practising and Listening Comprehension: A job interview
This lesson is going to be held face to face (or possibly on the phone) with your teacher. As a preparation for this lesson you should look for an advertisement in the newspapers (Helsingin Sanomat might be a good place to start looking) or on the Internet. The advertisement should be in English advertising for a vacant job. The work does not have to be in the field you are working or even in the field you would like to work; it can be pretty much whatever. You should then write an application letter to the company looking for an employee and explain why you would be the best possible choice for the job. The form of the letter should be of an official letter, as follows:
May 7, 2014
Mr. Bill Gates
349 Microsoft Drive
Silicon Valley, California73168
- Dear Mr. Gates,
Blabber blabber blabber blab. Blabber blabber blabbity-blab. Blabber blabber blabber blab. Blabber blabber blabbity-blab. Blabber blabber blabber blab. Blabber blabber blabbity-blab.
(This here is representing your letter to Mr. Gates!)
(here should be your signature)
You can also find many excellent examples online, for example on the Oxford Dictionaries website.
You should have the advertisement, the letter as well as a copy of your curriculum vitae you made in Lesson 7 with you when you come to your lesson of oral practising. One of your tasks during this particular day will be applying for the job and your teacher will act as an employer interviewing the applicants.
The teacher will then evaluate the performance according to his/her own preferences. So get in touch with your teacher!
