Lesson 6 - Let Me Entertain You

Art has always crossed national boundaries and brought people together, whether they were professional artists or enjoyed some form of art as a hobby. In this lesson you will study some vocabulary related to motion pictures, listen to some interviews, and write an article comparing two huge cultural events that you can attend both as an artist and a visitor.

Exercise 6.3

Festivals

Two of the best known annual cultural festivals take place in Edinburgh, Scotland. They are the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In this exercise your task is to find out some information about the two festivals and then compare them. Use these as your sources:
  • the home pages of the events
  • their pages on Facebook
  • their channels or videos at YouTube
Write an article where you compare the two festivals. You can include many kinds of information in your article but at least answer the questions listed below about both festivals. Keep in mind that you are writing an article and not just listing answers to the questions! Also, do not copy & paste anything as that is plagiarism but write your text in your own words.

Give your article a title. Remember to list all the websites you used as your source at the end of the article. Here are some questions to help you get going.
  • What is the event?
  • Why is it organized?
  • When does it take place?
  • Who participates in in?
  • Where do the artists and performers come from?
  • Which festival would you rather attend? Why?

Do you know  about the film that  in Hollywood is talking about this week?
There have been  rumours but  has said  definite.
I know is that  actors have been very interested in the project.
But  has signed a contract yet.
said he would take almost  role because he thinks the director is  of the best.
actor said that he would give just about  to be a part of the project.   have made similar comments.
At  point the director will have to make the decision, and  people will be disappointed.
wants to be told "no" by that famous and respected. But   in Hollywood says that it will be a huge success and unlike  film made before.
